ABOUT US
MCCI – Microelectronic Circuits Centre Ireland is a Technology centre that provides high impact microelectronic research. We are funded by Enterprise Ireland and IDA and hosted at Tyndall National Institute, Cork, Ireland. We work with global semiconductor companies to enhance their microelectronic technology developments for innovative product application enhancements . Our research strategy includes analog, analog mixed-signal, RF, & millimetre wave circuit IC architecture and design, including the development of system level solution research demonstrators or prototypes.
An important measure of our success is the number of PhD students and researchers who transition to the semiconductor companies based in Ireland. We strive to grow the talent pool of the best microelectronic engineers in Ireland and abroad. We have a high performing team who work closely with both industry and academic communities , to bridge the gap between Industry needs and academic research. The results of this relationship is high impact research with many IEEE awarded publications. We support our academic partners, with state of the art infrastructure, tools, methodologies, including foundry technology access that are aligned with our industry partners.
Our research teams are based in six of Ireland’s universities; Tyndall National Institute, University College Dublin, Munster Technological University, Institute of Technology Carlow, University of Limerick and Maynooth University and they work with industry on technological advances for the growth of the semiconductor sector.
Our lead technical steering advisors, senior level professors and senior researchers are a mix of world-renowned professors and principal investigators (PI’s) who develop the students while at the early stage of their research career.
The environment in the centre is vibrant , with a mix of experienced and earlier stage career engineers who strive to excel in research outputs and publications. The work atmosphere is very much on team effot with a energetic and innovative team who work well together to solve difficult research challenges. More than half of the researchers in MCCI are either students or recent postgraduates, so there is a nice working atmosphere for people to excel.
Our research IP generates and supports new start-up companies in areas such as wireless CMOS, Industrial 4.0, Biomedical Devices including implantable and IOT for smart, home, food and agriculture applications. We achieve this through the consistent world-class quality of our research challenges and outcomes re top publications in IEEE journals and conferences.
